Belgium beat Russia 2-0 in the last round of Group B on Monday night in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Denmark beat Russia in another match that started at the same time. Considering that result, the Finns would have continued to draw their own matches, they were on that path till the 84th minute; But then a small mistake was made. Belgium, who made eight changes to their XI in the previous match, held the ball for almost 60 per cent of the time in the first half. However, Ujjwal Lukaku, Eden Azar and TNA’s Jeremy Doku could not take advantage of the opposition’s freezing.
In the 37th minute, Lukaku got a great position in Kevin de Bruyne’s cross D-box and headed it along with the goalkeeper. Five minutes later, the goalkeeper jumped back with a strong corner kick.
Even though he got the ball in the D-box just before the break, he could not keep his balance and fell down.
At the beginning of the second half, Real Madrid star Azar’s shot was blocked by Finland goalkeeper Lucas. In the 85th minute, Lukaku got the pass of De Bruyne and sent the ball to the net. However, he was offside at short intervals.
The turn of the match took place in the 74th minute. Goalkeeper Lucas did not try to block Thomas Vermaelen’s head in the corner of De Bruyne, but the ball crossed the goal line with his hand on the way back to the top of the ball post.
Finland dropped out of the match seven minutes later. Inter Milan star Lukaku scored his third goal of the season after getting a pass from De Bruyne.
Denmark will play Wales in the fight to reach the quarter-finals. And Belgium’s opponent there will be one of the four best third teams.
