Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo addresses retirement question

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ron’aldo reiterated he has no intention of ret’iring from international football, as he re’vealed he wants to play for Portugal at the’ 2024 European Championship.

Ronaldo, 37, expressed it was his d’esire to leave United in the summer but r’emains at the club and will play a role in Erik’ ten Hag’s squad until January at the e’arliest.


Ten Hag consistently denied repo’rts that Ronaldo would leave the club acro’ss the summer and the forward scored ‘his first goal of the season against FC Sheri’ff last week. Ronaldo has started just thr’ee matches this term after returni’ng late to pre-season.


Ronaldo was named in Portugal’s sq’uad for this month’s Nations League fixtu’res and he is set to play at the Qatar World ‘Cup. Ronaldo broke the all-time interna’tional scoring record last year and he r’emains a key part of Portugal’s plans on’ the international stage.

He was presented with an award ‘at a Portuguese Football Federation cere’mony on Tuesday and he informed the a’udience of his plans for the future, explainin’g that he intends to represent his nation’ at Euro 2024, which will be hosted in Germa’ny.


“It has been a long road, but I would ‘like to take the opportunity to say that my ro’ad is not over yet,” Ronaldo said via Goal. “I fe’el motivated, my ambition is high. I am i’n the selection with a lot of young players ‘and I want to be part of this World Cup an’d the 2024 Euros as well, I assume ‘now.”
