Andros Townsend has rev’ealed that a moody Cristiano Ronaldo ignored his requ’est for his shirt 4 ti’mes after Eve’rton frus’trated Manch’ester Uni’ted in Sat’urday’s 1-1 draw.

TV footage sho’wed Ro’naldo uttering a few wo’rds while looking strai’ght ahe’ad as Townsend patted him on the back, bu’t the Everton man has since rev’ealed that the former Real Mad’rid superstar was speaking to him’self, rather than him.

‘You saw af’ter the final w’histle, I ran straight to hi’m, I don’t know what he was mu’ttering but it wasn’t English.’
Eventually, how’ever, Tow’nsend, who has now sco’red five goals in nine ga’mes for Eve’rton since joining on a free trans’fer last summer, persuaded Ron’aldo to hand over his shirt.

Spea’king a’bout his decision to copy Ronaldo’s famous ce’lebration, Town’send explai’ned it was not a spur-of-the-mo’ment decision.
‘We were discu’ssing it on the coach the day before on t’he way up to Manchester. The’ boys were saying, would you do it if you’ scored?’ he added.
‘I said yeah, but the 1 thing they said was make s’ure you are win’ning or it is’ late in the game, so Rona’ldo doesn’t ha”ve a chance to reply.
