Ronaldo overtakes a United legend on the goals table

With his opportun’istic finish against West Ham last weekend, showing the pre’datory instin’cts he has becom’e famed for, Cristiano Ronaldo move’d up a plac’e in Manche’ster Unite’d’s list of all-time goalscorers.

The Portugu’ese club lege’nd latched onto a cross from his compatr’iot Bruno Fernand’es and, after an init’ial shot was saved by the goalkeepe’r, he calm’ly prodded home into the botto’m corn’er – as you can see in the highlights.

It was Cristi’ano’s fourt’h goal since completing a sens’ational transfer back to United in August: he had previously scored twic’e on his return against New’castle and again versu’s Young Boys.

CR7 now has 122 goals’ as a Red and that is one mor’e than Andy Cole, the much-loved Treble winner whom he has overt’aken into 17th place on the club’s illustr’ious goals chart. As you woul’d expect, he isn’t finish’ed there…

WHO IS NEXT ON THE LIST?

In an interesti’ng twist, Rona’ldo’s former team-mate and curr’ent manager Ole Gun’nar Solskj’aer is ranke’d 16th on the all-time’ goals chart with 126 strikes to his n’ame.

Cristiano need’s four mo’re finishes to move along’side the Norwegian and five to overtake him, which is entirely possi’ble befo’re the next internati’onal break ta’kes place in October, consider’ing his electric form.

The Reds’ next mat’ch is agai’nst Aston Villa in the Prem’ier League this Saturda’y and that is followed by a Champ’ions League blockbu’ster with Villarr’eal next Wednesd’ay.

Then comes anot’her top-flight engagem’ent, versus Ever’ton at the Theatre of Dreams on Satur’day 2 October.
