Two Pennsylvania teens used AI to generate 347 pornographic deepfakes from photos of girls they went to school with. It’s the largest case of underage deepfake porn in U.S. history, Forbes USA reports
Last month, in a small town near Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Detective Laurel Baer invited dozens of high school girls and their parents to the police station to perform a difficult task: asking the girls, one by one, to confirm whether they were the ones in hundreds of AI-generated deepfake pornographic images seized by investigators.
In a series of closed-door meetings, Detective Baer of the Susquehanna Regional Police Department removed each image from the file so that only the victim’s face was visible, unless the family members specifically requested that everything be shown uncensored.
“When I saw those pictures, I was really upset because it made them so much more real to me,” one 16-year-old Lancaster victim told Forbes. “They’re so realistic and believable,” her mother added. “You can’t look at them and not think, ‘That’s her, and she’s naked,’ and that’s the scariest part.” The woman’s daughter was in more than 30 pictures.
