High-profile ransomware attacks in 2024 — in particular, incidents with the parcel and cargo delivery operator SDEK and VGTRK services — are forcing businesses to increasingly turn to cloud providers for data backup and storage services.
Market participants note particularly high growth dynamics in the use of object storage (technologies for convenient and reliable storage of large amounts of data) in the media industry. According to Strategy Partners, the volume of the backup segment will reach 22.6 billion rubles by 2030

On the wave of successful large-scale attacks for hackers in 2024 using ransomware viruses, representatives of media companies have increasingly begun to turn to cloud providers for data backup and storage services, a source in the cybersecurity market told Forbes. The information was confirmed by several companies providing such services.
“The archived data of many companies is considered a critical business asset that requires protection from loss as a result of failures and cyberattacks. Therefore, placing such content in a reliable and secure cloud is now one of the current scenarios, including for media and streaming services, both in terms of cyber risk management and in terms of implementing business continuity strategies,” confirms Grigory Nemychenkov, leader in cloud services development at Cloud.ru.
The demand for cloud data backup is growing in all industries, states Mikhail Tutaev, Director of Products at MTS Web Services, who estimates that purchases of this service in the company’s virtual infrastructure have grown by more than 40% over the year. “The demand for technology in television and radio broadcasting, publishing, and information technology is growing slightly faster — purchases of backups in these industries have increased by more than 1.6 times over the year,” says Tutaev.
